Apache, Nginx or OpenLiteSpeed?
PHP hosting sites can run on one of three web servers. You choose one when you order and can switch at any time later.
The three options
Apache (the default). The most widely compatible choice. It supports .htaccess files, so WordPress permalinks, plugin redirects and per-folder access rules work unchanged. Custom error pages are also available with Apache only. If you are unsure which to pick, stay with Apache.
Nginx. A fast web server with a small footprint. It does not read .htaccess files: if your application relies on them, for redirects or access restrictions for example, it is safest on Apache.
OpenLiteSpeed. A high-performance web server and a popular choice for WordPress sites. It cannot serve a separate folder per domain, so it cannot be chosen while any of your site's domains points to its own folder.
Switching
- Open the site and go to the PHP settings tab.
- On the Web server card, choose the new one and click Switch.
The site's container is rebuilt and the site is unreachable for a few seconds. The PHP version and your files do not change.
Tip: after switching, go through the site's main pages, especially redirects and password-protected areas. If something does not work, switch back the same way.
