Storage and resources

Every plan comes with a storage allowance, memory and CPU, and limits on domains, databases and cron jobs. This article explains how these are counted and what the portal shows you about them.

One shared storage allowance

Files, databases and mailboxes share one allowance. There is no separate quota for files and another for databases: any of them may use the whole allowance, and the three are counted together against it.

The site's Overview tab shows how much is used on the Storage allowance bar, broken down by type. File and database sizes are refreshed every ten minutes, mailboxes every six hours.

  • Above 80% the bar turns to a warning colour.
  • At 90% we also email you. We send that email once, and again only after usage has dropped below 80% in between.
  • When the allowance is full, you cannot create a new database or mailbox until you free up space.

How to free up space: delete old backups and temporary files from the web/ and private/ folders, clear out logs in the logs/ folder, and check your databases for data you no longer need (expired sessions, log tables, WordPress revisions and the like).

Memory and CPU

Every site runs in its own isolated container, with the memory and CPU limits of its plan. The limits apply per site, so an overloaded or misbehaving website next door cannot take the server's resources without bound.

If the site runs close to its memory limit (with many simultaneous visitors or heavy plugins, for example), you can raise PHP's memory_limit up to half of the plan's memory. See PHP version and php.ini settings.

Traffic

Outbound traffic is measured per calendar month and shown on the Overview tab.

Domains, databases, cron jobs

How many additional domains, databases and cron jobs you can add depends on your plan. The main domain, its www twin and the preview address do not count towards the domain allowance.
